Loads of bait available at negative tides. Great way to scout up the structure of an area as well.. nothing else makes it show up as well.. of course, those deeper troughs, on a long cast, accessed by hikes west you can only dream of at high tide, can produce some amazing fish, especially in rocky areas...

Don't forget, some really good food, like Pismo clams are widely available at negative tides as well...

I do well on outgoing tides, I only prefer incoming tides in winter cuz the water is warmer so its easier to cast to the deeper stuff. U usually have to fish out there farther on a minus. Try fishing 2-3 hours after a high tide {when the tide first starts pulling out} around sunrise or sunset. I take whatever tide is available when i have time.

I've never got anything at minus lows on open beaches in the winter so quit going. Have done well during late springtime and summer minus tides. Some of my best corbina sessions came at -1' or more lows in the summer. Good also for finding Pismos as the coach said.
