So I woke up very near to death on Tuesday and had to call in sick to work. I then figured since I had the day off I may as well jump on a boat and go fishing  Mission Belle had a really light load and I had always wanted to fish that boat so I gave it a shot. I will say I really liked the boat, only one deckhand this day and he was great, and the crowd of 18 was a really good, enjoyable group to fish with.

First stop at the islands netted me a nice bonito, we made a few more stops and picked off a few yellowtails each time. I was 0 for 2 though due to a little bad luck. The next two stops were pretty epic though and I went four for 4 and the boat hit their limit of yellowtails and it was only 12:30pm. I figured we were gonna go rock fish for the rest of the day but the captain decided to head out to where the other full day boats were bluefin fishing. Most of us were undergunned for this but pretty excited to have a shot anyways. Once we got out the captain marked some fish. One guy hooked up but got chewed off pretty quick. Made another stop and a another guy hooked up and after about 30 or so minutes landed a Bluefin around 65lbs which was awesome to see. After that we had to head home but that was easily the most epic full day I have been on. Bonitos, yellowtail limits and a bluefin. Pretty cool. Oh and my sickness was magically cured in time for work on Wednesday though its a good thing I work from home because I did get a bit sunburnt:emoji_flushed:

    Sorry no pics.

Great trip and report! There would have to be something wrong with you if you didn't almost limit out on YT and then get all amped up with that surprise announcement about going out to look for BFT!

How big were the YT? Seems like there's a fantastic grade of fish around right now all the way up to long beach.

Good to know the Yellows are still at the islands. Bonies too.

Thanks for the report and great job!

I would say they ranged from 8 to 15 pounds, nice fish. Also they were being caught on everything, yo-yo, surface iron, flat falls and bait.

What was the average tackle? Needed more than 40# setups for schoolies? What did the guy that got chewed off use?

Nice trip! Just don’t post pictures ha.

I don't know/remember what he had on when he hooked it. He did have a pretty heavy setup with a talica on it though so he was definitely more prepared than most of us.

Oh, yeah that's a decent rig even at the small sizes. Maybe he was spooled up for line shy bites and got 20 or 30# chewed off and farmed it. Who knows.

I went to the MB the day after....we hit near limits but that was at the end of the day not by 1pm as your trip did. The red 6X yo-yo was my hot ticket. Lost a couple of YT to the dogs.
