Well, I did not get the skunk off the boat but I was on the water, so bonus. I was going to take the kayak but for $7 more I rented one of their rowboats and put my trolling motor on it. They want to inspect anything going in the water, so keep that in mind and mention it to them prior to heading to the dock. My TM passed the muscle inspection and so did I. None either place.

I met a local who fishes there weekly and he recommended going with a "dark grub" off the bottom so I threw a TRD in dark green with no luck. I also through half of everything else I brought. Maybe it's me... :)

Oh yeah, those damn carp decided to help me understand my frustration with occasional breaches next to the boat, accompanied by a nice "moan" - yeah, I get it.

I didn't feel completely defeated as he fishes there weekly and managed 3 before the heat got us both off the lake. When he rowed over to show me what he was using - solid black Ika / skirt down (away from the ned head) / TX rigged - he also mentioned a swivel and from what I saw, this is it. Swinging Weedless Ned Head.

Anyway, I got on the water with great sunrise views and didn't sit on my couch. Learned something and met another decent human willing to share some secrets.

Morena used to be an amazing lake decades ago. Heck...there were some amazing bass bites back then. Not even close to the same lake it used to be. Don't let all those rocky bass looking spots fool you as the lake looks like a bass paradise. Yes, there is always a chance you may catch a bass but is has become a very tough lake to catch bass in. If you want carp.....the lake is full of them. If the water levels were back like it was a few decades ago things might change, but that does not look like it will ever happen. Yes, I know a few guys(some are locals) who catch some nice bass when the bass are moving in to spawn in early April-May and don't even go back much at all to fish until the same time next year. Too many times after the spawn and the hot weather rolls in, it is very very tough to catch any bass. There is always a chance as you know, so if you like challenges...it may be your lake to try to figure out. Let's just say you are not the only one out there that has tried and came up empty. Great pics and thanks for sharing. :)

Ya stirred a memory. It took overnight, but I'm slow.

David caught a bass at Morena last May! It can be done. :)
