Pumped shrimp in the a.m. and soaked bait all day Saturday. Very slow bite...YFC, rock wrasse, micro sandies, tiny halibut, small to medium spotties.
During the falling tide in the afternoon there were more mullet and corbina in the shallows than I have ever seen. They were probably there all day but between morning overcast and mid day breezy chop they weren't easily seen until midafternoon. Seein' ain't catchin' though...however...
Saw a big halibut follow a shrimp as it was reeled in. Didn't come back so I tied on a spinnerbait for a while. One mullet followed it right up in my face....following the lure so closely it looked like its nose was touching the skirt. A half hour later it happened again a little way down the sand. This time, right in front of me, the mullet short-bit and tore the skirt off the spinnerbait. So I'm standing there with my mouth open....undressed spinnerbait in hand....looking at the bits of white rubber skirt floating to the surface and thinking....those fly kooks who want a shot at mugil cephalus need to hear about this....

Dang that's crazy, the mullet always seem very uninterested in any lure. Did the halibut follow a dead market shrimp? Or a gulp shrimp lure? I've caught some on the gulp shrimp. Have a yozuri jerkbait shrimp that had never caught anything. Not even a mackerel.

"Pumped shrimp in the a.m....." It followed a dead ghost shrimp with the Drunk Bridesmaid presentation.
Was standing in knee deep water on the edge of the flat...where the depth goes from.1.5 feet to 10 or 12 feet. The flattie was a foot behind the bait then just turned and sank back down. A few dozen casts with fresh, much sexier shrimp got one halfhearted tap so I went to the lure.
As for the mullet....sometimes they'll turn on a lure so quickly as it goes past that you'd swear they'll hit it on the next cast. Not for me they won't.
