Just heard Miramar ramp is closed due to drawing water out of the lake and Murray is planning on lowering the lake by 30 feet very soon! Will this negatively affect the upcoming spawning season?

Miramar was very low last time I was there a week ago. Boats had maybe 5-6 feet of ramp to work with before it dropped out from under them. Murray was extremely full the other day although I wasn't by the ramp. Hopefully The ramp stays dry so the boaters go else where!

And yes, depending on the timing it can affect the spawn. If they drop eggs and the water drops, bass will abort spawn as the nest are high and dry. If the level stabilizes while low, they will try to spawn again. Its always shotty with water dropping at this time of year

I was told in the past that one particular year it was due to a delay in water shipment from the Colorado River. I believe I spoke with Arian Collins with the city (might have butchered the spelling).

I'm praying Otay won't drop, too. If that happens, I don't know...

The purpose behind the water dropping (from another thread):

Here (http://www.sdcwa.org/sites/default/files/files/projects-facilities-ops/aqueduct-operating-plan.pdf) is a link to the operation schedule of the reservoirs in regards to water shutdowns. In reference to the construction project that cannot be named: see page 4 (only 1 paragraph, but it explains the shutdown that will be occuring), the middle of the middle paragraph on page 7 (relining project), page 8 on the diagram timeframe Feb 5- March 30 untreated and page 12 top part-Feb 5-March 30 untreated water.

Edit: as a reminder the primary purpose for these reservoirs is raw water storage for drinking water purposes.

I think it would have been a much better look if San diego water department would have worked with/let DFg know that the two lakes they planned on stocking were also planned to be lowered, rendering them un-launchable during key fishing months. A justifiable solution would be to take the scheduled stocks and plant them at lakes that are still fishing friendly RKMM. But at the end of the day, that would have been thinking to much and like you stated above, the city doesn't care about the fishing.

Were just lucky the gates are open let alone tended to for fishing purposes. I'm just thankful to whoever added the word recreation into the contracts and plans years ago.

RKMM -- can you confirm that they will be taking 30' of water from Murray? I reviewed the document you posted, but as a layman when it comes to this stuff, I can't discern the level at which Murray (or Miramar for that matter) will be impacted by this maintenance.

Thank you for all of the incredibly helpful information you provide us here!

According to what the Reservoir Keeper told me the other day the water level will indeed be low, not sure on the exact amount but you will be able to see the old dam!

It's hard for the treatment plants to predict water use at any given time of the year. For example with this heat wave water use I'm sure has gone up more than usual for this time of year. They try to give their best estimate of use but it is unfortunately not always as accurate as we would like. Kind of like trying to predict the weather here...

Murray ramp should be, Miramar's is fluctuating a bit right at the poor/fair/out of service level.

Thinking about hooking the boat up....and driving it off a cliff! Our float tubes may be the only way to fish our lakes if this non-rain event continues. Sure don't see any encouraging signs at this time! I'm still looking for them!
