As my first year on a kayak is coming to a close. It has been a magnificent year of learning new techniques, fish movement, fish behavior and multiple small things that keyed me into catching more fish. I started the year with a 13.3 and ended the year with a 9.88. These are my 5 biggest of the year. Along with multiple 5-9 pound range fish. Every fish is special, but the one that started this years journey and obsession was the 13.3. I am hanging up the rods early this year to get ready for next year. Time on the water helps a lot, but don't be stubborn. Be open minded to try new things and be uncomfortable. Good luck to all and happy holidays! Time to put in those holiday tackle orders!

I think you could get a sponsorship if you wanted one

I worked on a boat that was pretty much entirely funded by sponsorship. All you gotta do is ask. Put together a package like this thread, what you do, where you post. Kind of like a press kit. Contact the companies. All they can do is say yes or no. One time, our chef on the boat called bow flex and the sent us out a free bow flex for on deck with hopes but no guarantee of it being in the show.

Great job on catching lots of BIG fat healthy bass during the year.
Not many double digits down here in San Diego caught like in years past, so seeing your posts and
pics are always exciting. Thank you so much for sharing with us and I certain that you will
be continuing to land many, many, many more of those beasts for years and year to come. I still
will wish you "tight lines"....but I am pretty sure you already have that pretty well mastered. :)

What’s the main forage in your home lake? Those fish looked stuffed!

During the colder winter months they stock trout into the lake. During the summer the fish feed heavily on gills and crappie. At least the really big ones I have found them feeding on little 3-4 inch crappies. I would regularly graph tiny schools of crappie that gets blown to ambush points. Make a cast into the wind and bring a crankbait of some sort right into their face. That has produced the biggest bites for me at least.

I used to be sponsored once upon a time. From my experience, the pictures are the most important aspect of a sponsorship. Companies will tend to be more keen on sponsoring you, and continuing to support you if you present great quality photos with prominent marketing of their brand. Taking time to get the right angles and even editing the pics afterwards helps a lot.

I know this information seems basic but from my experience with sponsorships, that's the best way to get it done, and a good place to start when searching for new sponsorships.

Thanks for the tips, sometimes even basic knowledge is very overlooked. Expecially for guys like me where I have never approached or been approached. Just being undeniable and smashing big ones just isn't enough in the fishing industry.

You need to go after it..rarely will it come to you! Always mention brand names in your posts and let the companies know how you can benefit their sales numbers! The more you're seen on the internet, the more valuable you are to the brands you use! Companies have money for advertising and promotions, you might as well get some of it, or at least some free gear!

The American dream is just a dream until you go after it. Right? I have never really considered any kind of sponsorships until this season. I am honestly just someone that enjoys fishing more then anything else. I would love to get paid to fish, but I would be just as happy if I had to scrape by to be on the water. Defiantly will be more proactive with social media in the upcoming year. I am a young, old school guy, social media is like kryptonite to me.

I'll chime in again about sponsorships...

Yes they're great and I loved having them because of all the benefits that came with it. On the other hand, something that I feel is overlooked is the pressure associated with sponsorships. I felt a lot of pressure to catch big fish and continue to keep catching them, and I would get worried when I was in a skunk or couldn't find a fish over a couple pounds. Also, keeping up with social media and posting a lot would get to me as well. Depending on the level of sponsorship you have, some companies will expect you to post a lot and promote them a lot and it can definitely get overwhelming.

I think sponsorships are great, and I would love to pick some back up once I finish school and have more free time on my hands, it can just get a little overwhelming sometimes and I think anyone considering sponsorships should know this before hand. Hopefully you land some nice gigs man it definitely has its perks!
