Got back out to my all time favorite lake last Sunday... Haven't been here since Jan.

The lake has dropped a lot since then... Good news to me.

This is where I spend most of my time in the late Fall / Winter.

    Post card worthy...

Still trolling but when the water gets colder you have to go down deeper than in the Summer.

You have to be careful not to get beneath them however... ya never get bit.

    IMG_20201122_064421526.jpg

It didn't take long to track some down... Before I even had a chance to put my shades on...

    IMG_20201122_070711691.jpg

Got into them throughout the morning and the size as you can see are a bunch of 2 pounders

    Still hitting at Noon...

    IMG_20201122_102202597.jpg

    Ended the day @ 12:30...

Also caught a bunch of bluegills and 3 bass. Lots of action.

Quality over quantity any day in my book peeps...

Nice! What is your favorite way to eat these? I always thought crappie was the best fresh water fish I have had, walleye is good as well and catfish is just alright.

To me crappie was the walleye of the south. In terms of table fare fresh water species walleye is hard to beat.

Sometimes I liked catfish and sometimes it was too slimy. Fried Gulf shrimp beats it all and you can keep your dirty crayfish -unless you purge them correctly and even then I prefer king crab, halibut, white sea bass and perfectly shucked blue crab.

Why am I so hungry all of a sudden?

Thanks for the report Roy. Takes boat skills, a warm jacket, plenty of patience and LOTS of sunflower seeds to put a winter stringer together. The sunflower-seed shell on the tail is the Slabaronies trademark!

Awesome. What do you look for on your fishfinder when searching for them?

    Thanks All...

Hey Larry! Let me know when your ready to jump back on the crappie machine!

Crappies are 2nd to Walleyes... In my opinion. Maybe that's because I currently have no access to walleye? And they "crappies" certainly taste even better in the cold.

    IMG_20191027_174243493.jpg

We do use a fish finder to locate schools and try to get them at times. But it is hard to stay on top of them when they are suspended over 60 feet of water. Generally its fishing an area verses looking then fishing.

I do see a few bass guys trolling... We even caught 3 on this day.

The story however and about these little... well not so little anymore.

    IMG_20210103_085127926.jpg

Caught more of bluegills than crappies for the 1st time. Been fishing Cap for a while... been watching these gills get bigger and bigger over the years. There are very nice size now. Not Otay or San V bullgills but very nice. I'm going to get my kids out here once it gets warmer to tear these gills up!

Go Raiders! Even tho our Defense Sucks!
