With Sutherland closed, I'm back to my San V Mondays! Boy did I miss it! I had my mind set on fishing topwater and it didn't disappoint! I first checked out a spot that's been reliable for me in the fall, and it paid off. I spent the next 3 hours covering a 100yd area, strictly fishing busters, mostly over 45' deep of water. By 10:00, I had 24 fish, 1 to 4lbs. My bait of choice was tiny flukes, flylined to the busters. My rod for throwing those is closer to a fly rod than a spinning rod, only way to get them out there. Once the sun came out, switched to a dropshot, but lost interest in that pretty quick and went back to the baby flukes. I found a point with some 10"-12" kids busting and put another 20 or so in the boat in the next couple hours. Just plain good stupid fun. Don't know if those qualify as fish..but sure was a good time! Called it a day at 12:30, arm couldn't throw those little baits anymore! 20221003_085030.jpg 20221003_084309.jpg 20221003_080716.jpg 20221003_084001.jpg 20221003_083114.jpg 20221003_075140.jpg and for Vinny, a photo of the only tulles in Vicente... 20221003_112427.jpg

Nice job out there mcfish! You been talking about the topwater bite all summer and looks like you found what you have been looking for. That must have been a blast having bass busting on shad and your flukes all around you out there. Looks like some nicer bass (as compared to lots of the topwater dinks at Murray) too.... which is always a plus!
Thanks for sharing your San V fishing adventure with us. Ahh..."McFish Mondays". :)
Also thanks for that pic of the only tulles out at San V. I would be all over that tiny patch with Tokyo rigs...ha ha
    Tight lines always.

That's some solid angling there. Most productive report in quite a while.

Definitely a fun time! You never know how long the busters will stay up...the sun can shut down a crazy good bite!

Good to Know San V is doing it too. Otay has been stupid fun as well the last couple months for busters. Me and my son got 55 a couple weekends ago.

Thank you! I've fished these lakes a long time and sometimes have a different angle on attacking them! I like to help people like they helped me growing up fishing Murray a long time ago. I don't fish tournaments, so I have nothing to hide..but I understand where they're coming from. I still learn alot by talking to people like Vinny, who is constantly mixing up things and getting on the fish! I use to worry about giving up hot lakes, but we have so few good lakes left, people have got to fish somewhere..having Sutherland and Hodges closed and Morena really unfishable, doesn't help the situation!

Nice work! I need to take a Monday off to hit San V one of these weeks. Won’t fish there on the weekend with all the water contact crap going on.

Weekends aren't fishable til the water gets cold and the wake boarders go back into hibernation!

Even at El Cap without the water contact it can still be challenging for kayakers/tubers, still have a bunch of guys in their jet boats ripping around the lake without any regard for other boaters and watercraft.

They need to send them all down to the bay and let them run some saltwater through those engines....
