    Hey folks,
As most of you know by now, I'm a Mid-Atlantic & New England Fisher moving to Northern San Diego County.
I've got to pack or sell my fishing gear, have waaaaaay to much (but not enough : )'
Anyway, slow pitch, speed jig flat fall, surface irons.... all greek to me.
Ive got tons of jigs from 4 - 24 oz, ranging fro hammier diamond, to Crippeled Herrings, to Norwegian style cod jigs.
    See pic below.
Are there any use for any of these in SoCal & if so, for what species?
    Thank id advance!

I would say you are set for Rockfish , but I tend to stay inside in my boat . Don't know if this helps .

I do not have experience fishing on boats but I do not see any reason why these lures would not work in SoCal. Anything shiny should be able to get the fish attention.

    Cool.
Thant's a Crippled Herring 5oz. I have them from 5 - 17 oz. The little ones have caught me stripers, black sea bass, and cod for me.

Fish don’t know what coast they live on. If it looks like baitfish/squid they will probably go for it.

    Thanks much everyone,
Very happy I can put those to good use.
Looking forward to learning this fishery.
Once we get settled in and figure out how to live there, budgets, get job & a home,...
I'm looking forward to doing some jigging for rockfish, hopefully some larger model hali, and would absolutely love a shot a rock cod.
    Best regards!

They are, in fact, seen em tossed in Baja many times. The thought of seeing someone toss one locally struck me a bit...

    Do you mean Roberts Rangers?
I have a handful of those. Cast a mile. Easy to work.

Those used to be a goto for launching towards distant blitzing gator bluefish. Burn the across the surface and watch the big ole nasty blues fight over and grab for it. They work for sure. Too bad those big bluefish schools. are getting fewer and farther between. SOOO MUCH FUN! Like many fisheries, it was abused. When they were prevalent, it seemed like an endless resource, until they weren't.

Werf, do people toss those for rooters in the surf?

I fish them all the time locally. Great
Jig for the jig stick, replace the stock J hook with a jobu hook. Things are in a class of their own
Great for inshore, surf and bird schools. Slayed the yellowfin on them in Panama

Now you guys have my curiosity peaked. I’d like to see a picture of this Roberts plug / jig. If someone is so inclined to post a pic.

    Sure thing.
Like I said, killer for blitzing blues on surface. Plus, the cast like a bullet.
I love the two w/ eyes.
