I’ve never really gone after big Bluefin before and I want a rod that is capable of landing a 100+ Bluefin because I know some of the boats have been landing them. I’d be pairing the rod up with an Avet LX raptor, so what size rod would I want to pair with the reel so that I’m capable of landing a triple digit fish?
So far I’ve thought about pairing with a few rods,
    Phenix Axis HAX 720XH 30-80
    Seeker Black Steel Graphite 40-60
    Okuma PCH Custom 30-60
Would any of those rods be good, or should I size up?

I have landed 2 bluefin over 100 pounds. When I fish big bluefin I don't want to be holding a pig sticker in that gunfight. I fish the heaviest gear I can get away with, and for now that's an avet hxw raptor on a 7 ft 50-130 Rainshadow. There's bigger fish down there but my 130 pound braid and 100 izor XXX mono get my ticket to the dance. 200 floro leader on big glowing flatfalls for sure. It may be a thought on whether to drop serious $ on gear or rent it and know it's legit and fresh from the landing without tying up funds for trips. Tight lines and following seas

LX is at least 1 line class down from where you want to be.
Avet specs the LX capacity at 470yd of 100lb - It may work for you on 1 fish; but I would certainly expect a super hot reel to the touch, perhaps with drag servicing required.

I'd suggest at least an HX Raptor (personally have an HXWr for this application) where you're looking at
    600yd of 100 or 420yd of 130lb

Maybe take a look at an EX 30/2 depending on rod.
Your rod selections are a bit on the lighter side.

I would be looking in the 80-130 min line classes if you're specifically targeting triple digit fish.

Another option would be to rent either component or the whole enchilada.
New setups in this class eclipse $1000 real quick, not considering the stepped up terminal tackle required.

I picked up a few heavier combos trying to get a bluefin over 100lbs this year. For the heavy combo I got a makaira 30 with a 100-130 rated graftech railrod. Lighter big fish combo I got a fathom 40n with a pch railrod 60-100 for 60#.
Ive yet to tangle with a fish that size, and I'm not familiar with the avets, but I would take the advice of Redjim and Chriwilson .
Those rods listed sound like more of 50# class rods. Might be capable of landing a 100lb+ but if that's the target go loaded for bear (or cow).

Spot on Chris as always, I look forward to sharing the rail with you again soon my friend. Easy with the gear you were talkin, it would put a smile on a captain's face to see you hooked up because you are setting yourself up for success. Tight lines

    Likewise Jim !
I'll be heading out on 1/2 days once I get back from Texas.
I'm fully expecting the Islands to fire full throttle while I'm away - LoL

It's still a bit on the early side, I'm thinking end of May being my next offshore opportunity

    Boats are to pricey
The raptor is light to say the least. Get a true 60lb reel... FTH40NLD2, HXWr, etc. Capacity is vital.
