Hey there! I'm new to lobster diving but have some experience in the water as a former SAR swimmer in the Navy. Looking for some people to free dive with for some lobsters. Pretty flexible schedule. I live in central SD, so Mission Beach Jetty to IB would be easiest for me for me to get to, North County is a little too far. I'm also interested in hoop netting if anyone wants to do that. Shoot me a text at 760 492 4012.

I'm new to SD (from WA) and missing my crabs...Will settle for lobster! I bought all my diving gear gear (snorkel, suit, light, flipper) and raring to use it. I heard catching lobster by hand is a most rewarding experience (at night too!). Read La Jolla or Point Loma (close to bay) are best spots. Waiting to find eager buddies join wiith.Let's do it!

Hi there, I'm also new to SD and interested in anything freedive fishing related. Up to now just freedived because everything else was not allowed in my country, did just some spearing and catched 1 tako in hawaii last month.
But now that I'm here I would love to find some buddies for all which will allow to combine freediving with cooking my own catch :). I got freedive equipment for warm water, 3mm longsuit & 5mm shorty, but maybe if I put on both its ok?

I also still need to apply for a fishing license but for the beginning just freediving with somebody while he's catching stuff, watching & learning would be absolutely enough for me.

    Best,
    Chris

I certainly wouldn't dive here in the winter in a shorty. We have some of the coldest water in the nation here in the winter.

Get yourself a proper freedive open cell, or try to make it work in a decent surf suit with a full hood or you'll definitely be sorry. (And get an ear infection)

Not sure how often you guys have done this but will need the following:

dive light, gauge, report card, fishing license, game bag & gloves since the lobsters are SPINY.

Good luck finding them once season starts and hope you are quicker than them!

Back when I wore a younger man's clothes, I dove "wreck ally", and wore a dry suit - even in the summer. Even tho I owned my own, I know you could rent one from Sports Chalet. Makes the experience much more enjoyable. I used to bring small groups of 'Zonies over and certify them for Dry Suit and Wreck diving over a long weekend.

I'm guessing you can find someone to certify you in dry suit before bug season.

Oops. Guess a double reminder is always good.

While I'm at it, don't forget weight belt and weights, lol.

And may the visibility be with you.

The only drawback is you can't or shouldn't pee in a dry suit!!!!

I am down whenever you need someone to go with. I am going to college at Point Loma and there aren't a lot of experienced divers here besides myself

I’m going Friday I think. Do you need long fins or can regular short fins get it done. If I’m diving in 3-5 ft do I need a weight belt still? I don’t want to use a weight belt

How thick is your wetsuit? Thicker wetsuits are buoyant and harder for you to get down there even in the shallows.

How tall are you? If you have 7’ arm span and long legs then it’s to your advantage.

Best advice is go out there and try with and without weights. See what you like. Everyone’s different and have different comfort levels.
