Did some midnight fishing on Point Loma base last night. Havent dived into night fishing the bay as much as Ive wanted so I grabbed my darkest Zoom Grub, 1/2ounce bullet and went to work. Had about an hour till peak tide, no wind. Bites were many, but all short strikes. Still stuck with the grub when I get one nice "thump" in the line, definitely felt like a hit but didn't move afterwards. Knew I was gonna call it quits after I got what I thought was a snag out. Proceeds to tighten drag and pull until either my line snaps or lure pops. As I'm pulling I feel something tug back, welp he must've took me in the rocks and got free. Feels almost like a log dragging in current. Bring it in, looks like an eel, nope, something I aint ever seen before 20190311_040803.jpg 20190311_040742.jpg 20190311_040823.jpg 20190311_040833.jpg

Butt ugly Midshipman. I picked up three this last season - each just as ugly as the other. They freak me out, and I refused to touch them. They're either going to eat me, or electrocute me.:emoji_joy:

Secondhand info has it they are edible. I have never personally tried one, as they are far too valuable as bait.. cutting them up, the meat looks pretty good though, I can't testify directly otherwise. Lizardfish likewise according to rumor
