    Lake Havasu does it again, it looks like the redear sunfish world record was broken again there yesterday with a 5.8 pounder.

    The previous record was set on May 2nd, 2011 and weighed 5.55 pounds, also at Havasu.

    Again, the quaggas are good for something. Feeding giant redears.

    More big Havasu redears that show the evolution in size;

    4 pound 13 ouncer caught in June of 2012

    The 5.55 pounder caught in May of 2011 that has stood as the world record for the last few years

    And then here is a pic of a redear Mike Phua caught while practicing for an FLW Bass tournament last March at Havasu. He said it weighed 5.7-5.9 pounds on the handheld scale in the boat. But I don't think they ever got it on the right scale for consideration for any records at the time.

    Havasu is the redear capital of the world right now. We might see a 6 pounder this spring.

    San Vee will be interesting when it reopens. It produced a 3.8 pounder I believe back more than 10 years ago. And now with the quaggas (since 2007, about the same time they were discovered in Havasu) and it being closed this long... we shall see.

    Should be some monstrous blue cats caught there as well when it reopens.

    Next time someone catches something like that, I'd like to see a shot that shows how thick it is across the back. CRAZY! Couldn't imagine a 5.8 pound sunfish. LOL

    Here is another photo of the fish. Measurements were 17" long, 19.5" girth.

    :shock: Wow! That's a hell of fish. I'm sure he thought it was a nice bass they way they pull. I've caught 3 lbrs outta San V too. They are soo fun to catch on light tackle. I think ur right Kellen, San V will produce some good ones. It was b4 it closed. My buddy and I had 56 reds and total weight was just over 130lbs! Our pb... I believe pound for pound they are the best fighting fish in our lakes. :D
