I needed a rod with a slightly larger reel seat to fit the Lexa 300 I bought, and Amazon had the MH Proteus inshore rod on sale for $132, figured there was a pretty good chance it was going to fit. The good news was that the reel fit great, the bad news was they shipped it in a box rather than a tube and it arrived with a broken tip in spite of that section being encased in foam. Oh well, no biggie, I'll just get a replacement. I see the replacement was delivered, I ask my wife to check it out and... lol. What? Who ships a rod like that? She said it's all in one piece and there are no nicks or anything but come on now.

Last time I bought a rod from Amazon was a few years ago, if I remember correctly it came in the same kinda box. This one says it's shipped by and sold from Amazon, not from a private seller.

After my last Amazon Shipped rod, never again. Same type of box with zero padding. I’d just have her make sure the delivery guy didn’t swap out an Ugly Stik in its place ...

amazon will sometimes do that when they lose product and get it back..they have typically already reimbursed the seller and had the same box it came in...either way, with amazon you are protected..which is a good thing...i only say all this cause i do fba on amazon and this is typically what happens when amazon is selling a product from somebody else...

I've NEVER bought a (fly) rod thru Amazon. But if I did, I'd make sure it came in a rod tube (all better fly rods come with manufacturers rod tubes). Did the description state anything about a rod tube, or do your kind of fishing rods not come with tubes?

I purchased an Okuma SCT rod from Amazon. Came the same way but arrived undamaged. I could really care less as Amazon will replace anything arriving damaged. Just make sure it is not a 2nd or 3rd party vendor. If it states sold and ships from Amazon you are covered.

Tackle Warehouse is awesome for online rod buying, they send em in heavy tubes and as an added bonus they pay for return shipping.

I'm thinking everything wrong right now. Almost in a panic like I should be apologizing.. I guess thats what I get for listening to Hannity on FOX.

Your kind of rods (spinning, baitcasting, etc). My kind of rods are fly rods.

I've got a bunch of rod tubes that I would GIVE to a shipper if they would pick them up! Can't bring myself to throw them away!
