For night fishing is it the same bait/ lures/ techniques as during the day? What adjustments if any need to be made?

Mainly hoping for surf perch but it doesn't seem like they are a typical night species. I keep hearing rays and sharks mostly. They take surf perch bait/ lures?

The surf perch will bite at night. Matter of fact when i'm corbina fishing at night in the summer the perch are downright pests.

I catch leopards, rays, and shovelnose on squid. Beans, croaker, and perch on sand crabs.

Ok so same camo worms and 1.5" grubs at night? How do they see such small bait? I'll be sure to add some procure inshore scent to help them track better in the dark.

Fish , along with good eyesight and smell are equipped with a lateral line the full length of their body that allows them to feel motion etc. in the water , camo sand worms already have a good scent but if you use grubs etc. for sure add the hot sauce Tight lines .

    Mister Ritchie,
I've heard from more than one suggest using hot sauce but I wonder is this the normal taco or burrito hot sauce for consumption?? Any particular brand like Taco Bell, Jack n' Box or a store bought brand?? Or is this a special fish scent in a hot sauce flavor??

All of the above doesn't seem to Matter About the brand just the stuff that you get in the little foil packets . There is actually a scent at most of the tackle shops called hot sauce as well .

Lobsters pick your bait to nothing, morays just steal bait if you are lucky, hooking one they twist your rig to Gordian knots.

Bass steal and sometimes you hook them so they aren't so bad if legal size.

Ironically, listening to Bill Barney at the Fred Hall show and in his book he suggests the same thing...tin foil packets of hot sauce.

Teasingly, I asked him the same thing...mild, hot or OMG Hot!!?? Bill says it's the smell of the vinegar that attracts the fish, the oil in the sauce keeps it on the bait.

Well, if it's the oil/vinegar combo that gets their attention, maybe we should be fishing with a li' Kraft Italian dressing??? Be sure to use the new wide mouth bottle, just dip the ol' lure in there and cast away.

If yer' pulling in 'salad' on your line, you've got dinner!!! :)

Harvested some ghost shrimp Friday afternoon in Mission Bay. Friday night fished them at Coronado for nada. Anyone have luck with ghost shrimp in the surf? And at night in the surf? I expected at least some perch. Oh well. Thanks.

One of the deadliest baits in surf or bay for a bunch of different fish.. Almost anything will eat ghosts

That's what I was thinking too! I don't know what I did wrong, unless there were simply no fish around. And yes, I confirmed that they did not fly off the hook mid-cast.

depends where at coronado. I've had lot of luck at the jetty thing by Hotel Del. I've also gotten some weird af hook-ups on gs at the coronado ferry landing at night.
