It seems as though North county has finally shed the red tide!!
Hit the Batiquitos lagoon about an hour before the morning high tide - hoping to find the hot spottie bite again. No luck today. Caught 2 clone spotties and a chunky, 12.5" calico over a 1.5 hour session. There was a foursome across the channel (south side) that was soaking sardines or anchovies (bait shop bait) and they pulled in a 3 or 4 short halibut and a bat ray.
I decided to ditch the lagoon and pedal my azz up to Tera Mar to throw the LC across some beach structure. Water was really churned up and it was hard to find a hole with rolling set waves. Salad was also pretty heavy. Finally found an area with clean water, nice structure, and consistent water.

Hooked a short flattie at 13:11. Happy to finally pull a flattie out of Tera Mar - I've got a lot of hours casting across that structure.

Looks like it was in the middle of mating. I’m pretty sure the big female has to be around. That tail looks super red!

I noticed the tail, so it's mating colors?

Was thinking of bringing my son to the lagoon soon. Was planning on Parking at the end of Navigator cr. Just to Clarify, can we fish East of I-5?

    Thanks

East of the 5 is a MPA - no fishing (ref pg 91 of 2020 Ocean sport fishing regulations). If you were attempting to access the water by the train tracks, that area back there is a big fat no-no for shore pounding. The local DFW guy (Noel) has some kind of sixth sense with that spot and he appears like a phantom from the brush as soon as someone drops a line in the water. You can fish the water west of the 5, the problem is you'll have to trespass to get to the majority of the shoreline. Only place to fish Batiqitos from the shore is the little stretch of rocks between the 101 and the chain link fences that form the San Dieguito Lagoon Ecological Reserve boundary. I have seen guys go into the lagoon on SUP with a rod strapped to their back. Also have heard there is really good spearfishing.

Thanks for the intel. Maybe well hit Agua Hedionda between 101 and the RR tracks. Looks like there is better access for my son.

The “no fishing” signs around hedionda seem to have disappeared, at least between PCH and the RR tracks. And I saw several people fishing there today. Go for it. Get your kid on some! Good luck!
