Well the scale was on the tip of my hook. I was using a double snelled set-up on a C-rig (expanading on K-Bo's idea of "more bait"). Crabs on top, gulp worm on bottom (caught on both, but no double up). I had a good hit but missed the set. Wound in and my crabs were gone and that scale was skewered on the bottom hook. Guess I missed him with both! LOL!

Tip for best way to cook those bad boys...gut them, scale them, cut the fins off. If too big to fit in the skillet, cut in half. Put in some oil, and cook the whole fish. Best meat is up around the head. When you're done, split the skull and keep the stones. The stones are right behind the eyes.

Will definitely try that the next time. But then what do I do with the "stones"?

The same thing I do with my elk ivory...nothing, but I still have it :emoji_stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:.

And BTW - thank you for your efforts! At least one forum member benefited from a week of posting on fishy spots, bait, and conditions.

I guess we all do, to a certain degree... ok, so after cleaning that fish, did it look like their scales matched up with that big one you found stuck on your hook ?

Too big for a bean I think. Really does look like a mullet, but I haven't had time to figure out what a mullet scale really looks like..

I'm just giving K-Bo a little crap. His reports are awesome.

The scale was definitely not corbina. I'm still thinking it could be a big crow because looking at pictures, they have larger scales and they were definitely in the area. Will have to take a good look at mullet next time I get one.
