Dawn Patrol bite was excellent this morning. Hoping that this is a leading indicator for good spring and summer season.

Started before first light with 4" Keitech in a TW special color, 3/8oz weight, 3/0 EWG. Water was just starting to move after early high tide (6.5ft @ 04:00). I've noticed the actual water movement is about 1 hour behind the tide app I use - https://www.tide-forecast.com/locations/Oceanside/tides/latest - but it's always a 1 hour offset so I just adjust my session accordingly and keep using the same app.

Picked up two nice fish right away. First fish was close to or right at legal, second was a heavy legal - really nice specimen that was determined to leave an impression on me...pooped all over the front of my jacket.

The current from outgoing tide started to move a little better and I managed to pick up another half dozen fish with an even split of typical clone 10"-12" to better grade 12"-13". Still not what I would consider a wide-open bite. Nothing really hammered the bait, but had consistent ticks-n-pecks on all morning. I also switched to a chartreuse bait after sunrise. The water wasn't stained, but definitely not clear. Quite a bit of debris floating from recent rain runoff.

Moved spots and ended up with a nice little surprise. Haven't hooked up with one of these in N County for like 6 months. It was good to have a change of scenery!

Ended with one last decent fish right before 07:00...which was fine w/ me. I was ready for breakfast and another cup of coffee. Drove home feeling grateful to have access to such a good fishery, my jacket stinkin' like fish poop, and a beat-up thumb.

Nice! Second one is a real chunker!

Clear case of Spotty-thumb right there! LOL! (I don’t lip those things anymore. I don’t care how cool the picture looks)

Nice catch on those Kietech. Will have to join you one day for the dawn patrol since I live just down the street. Been doing freshwater waiting for them to move on the beds but did manage a 26" hali in mouth of harbor 2 days ago and no before you ask not on a LC but live bait in my boat.

26er...SWEET! Excited to hear/see evidence that the hali are getting active (cough, cough...just in time for the first grunion run). Funny how that all works out.
You're welcome to join the dawn patrol party anytime. Just shoot me a DM. IMO it would be nice to have 3-4 guys fishing at once. I'd like to know if the spotties are holding every where or in localized areas. Also would like to know if similar size fish hold together, i.e. do the grumps behave like satellite bulls or cows in an elk heard and congregate w/ each other, or are they just all mixed up.

You have no idea how tempted I've been to drive 30 minutes north after checking in for recent Shore Pounders night sessions. I just can't get past the feeling that fishing at the local honey hole is somewhat of an unfair advantage.

You can go fish in Hawaii if you wanted to. Might not find our bass there but you could do it. A contest is a contest, and as long as you sign in and have the appropriate tag with the measurement in the photo, it don’t matter where the fish comes from. Just please, no 99 Ranch.

In my experience the bigger units are usually spaced out. Smaller clones don't mind being within 6ft of each other.
    Nice looking fish.
