Fished the slack again today with excellent conditions. This might have been my shortest surf session to date. Within 15 minutes, landed a little dude...and then, hooked Mama!

Personal best Haibut from the surf (27"), second legal in two days, and caught this one with a nasty wind knot. Pinch me...

Right on! I looked at the surf cam on north county beaches at about 330-4pm and it didn’t look appealing to me. Good for you for getting it done while leaving me regretful!

Sick, what was the lure of choice if you don't mind sharing? Looks like you hooked em good.

    I don't mind at all:

Lucky Craft 110 in Metallic Sardine. The vast majority of my catches are on that color, but Cherry Berry gets hit as well.

Line is 30lb J-Braid, ball bearing swivel, 20lb Flouro leader, to an Angler clip. That's been my preferred rigging for this lure.

Dude! You obviously have something figured out. You've caught more north county halibut in a week than I have, well, ever! Way to go.

Do you purposefully fish the slack and find it productive? Does it matter if it's a slack low or high? I just moved to Cbad Village so plan on putting some serious time in once I'm settled. See you out there, keep killing it!

I have absolutely nothing figured out! Just dumb luck & time on the water.

For the beaches I mainly fish, low / slack seems to be better just because I can get the lure out there. Incoming & high (especially now) can be unfishable to borderline dangerous. Fast moving water + rocks is not a combo I wanna mess with.

See you around for sure! Tight lines, brother.
