Caught this striper sat morning at 5:45. I was using LC flash grunion with the blue stripe on 10lb test. It was to early to have anyone take my picture so I had to do it myself. Sorry not better a photo. 61C5DE30-4C9E-451D-9021-E26F5F20E084.jpeg EC6CD389-E3B6-46C6-BA79-2A936716BFC6.jpeg Striper 31-1/4” don’t know the weight

That makes it an even more memorable, I haven’t forgotten the stripers I caught on San Francisco Bay 30 years ago, cool catch for surf fishing it gets me all choked up.

I grew up fishing sf bay stripers and sturgeon with my grandpa and brother. Great memories, I hope to get back there someday.

Seems like all the posts on striper catches over the past few years have been on north county beaches, i.e., TP and north. Don't recall any being reported LJ and south ?? My imagination or is there some logical reason for it ?

Whack ! Nice job, another one for the tally. I’ve eaten many striper out of Lake Powell but always wondered how the salt water version cooks up. They’re a tad on the mushy side from Powell. I have it in my head that the salt version would be much more firm. Hopefully I’ll find out one day... ( Walleye are the best eating fish at Powell )

There were a couple very recent catches at Mission Beach. Most of the ones I hear about are usually between Encinitas and Oceanside. Oceanside seems to have given up the most the past ten years or so.

It would be much easier if it was closer. Most my surf fishing that I am able to plan has been planned for the remainder of the summer(weekends), and weekdays are tough for any kind of fishing right now. I will let you know if I decide to change any plans ;)

Powell version like local trout. Water is not cold enough. I'm originally from SF bay area and know both the bay & ocean stripers up there are firm. Water temps here considerably warmer so don't know. How were those fillets CT ?
