Luckily got some late parking at north jetty last night. Still unsuccessful in bringing something home for the pan. The edible panfish are very hard to come by it seems. Or maybe they just feed better during the day?

    Fished from 8pm to 2am

Caught approximately 20-25 fish (i usually lose count around 5)
Had a big jacksmelt deep hook himself on BOTH of my hooks, so whacked him up for bait
    Lots of mackerel
    Couple salema
    few short calicoes biggest 11"
Caught 2 rockfish back to back, anyone know what kind?
And what i think is a barred surf perch?

Gotta say jacksmelt is some of the best cut bait ive ever used. the meat is incredibly firm and the skin tough, sticks to a hook like glue.

White surf perch, walleye surf perch.. not a barred. If it had a black anal fin that I believe it would be a walleye

Yes, that's a grass rockfish.. and my guess is shiner perch, hard to be sure without a pic of the fins..
Edit, not a shiner, I checked. Maybe a silver surfperch, or walleye

I was out at the jetty fishing from 6-9pm last night. Did you happen to stop by and talk to an angler about fishing on the end of the jetty?

Yeah all channel side. I would imagine the sheltered water would make fish prefer it. but i don't actually know. Not to mention the rocks were wet higher on that side.

Oh is that what all those lights were? Didn't see him but i did pass a guy sleeping under a blanket in a depression in the sand at the base of the jetty.

Yeah i did, nice talking to ya if that was you. I was the dingus with the slip bobber rig. Also met another guy further down, said he was gonna post a report so i assume it was Wayne W, was nice talking to him as well.

Slip bobber is a deadly, underused jetty fishing tool.. nice work as usual.. the after dark crew on the jetty can have some beasts, especially on an incoming tide.. thanks for the report, and yes, smelt is a kick azz bait that freezes well

Nice session. Using smelt results in eels for me lol. It does stay on the hook very well and retain solid texture through long soaks or freezing
