Finally got into some fish worth keeping after a couple months of trying. Id like to think im getting dialed in but who knows maybe conditions were just right. Water was very clear, almost made me regret getting there at sunset... almost. Took me about an hour and a half to find the bite.

Fishing was made sketchy and difficult by a very high slippery rock line, had to stand so far from the water i couldn't use my 16 foot fixed line pole. Fishing was limited to areas that were steep enough and with good spaces between the rocks to make landing even possible.

    Fished from 6PM to 11PM

    Caught 15-20 fish
    3 sculpin (1 legal)
Handful of black croaker (1 Kept)
Handful of small sargo (1 kept)
    couple short calicoes
    salema
    tiny gopher rockfish

Dude.. there are only around 150 species, some of which look extremely similar. Sometimes, even I have no idea without detailed pictures of things like the anal fin, gill rakers, face spikes, etc.. yeah . That brown spot on the gill plate is the dead giveaway for a brown rockfish from SD county, up north or out deep, sometimes it's missing, but every shallow water brownie I have seen here in SD and OC has that dark spot and no other rockfish does.. want a challenge? Tell me the difference between olive and yellowtail rockfish from a dorsal or front photo, yeah, good luck with that, lol

Identifying rockfish is not easy. Nice work on the mixed bag
