Yeah.. OB is a terrible place sometimes..so many unethical people fishing there have no sense of regulations. I wish they would regulate it more with checks. I saw these two other groups doing the same thing with keeping all the lobsters regardless of size. Stashing them in their cooler bags and walking back to their cars and then coming back. *SMH*

I agree there should be fish and game just posted up there ticketing people with no license and poaching. Too small room to grow

Maybe the lifeguards, I don't know if you can reach them at night, but from reading post here they have the ability to give citations.

Just being real here, if i reported 100 people on the pier, it wouldnt even make a dent. Hate to put it out there but lobster season is "wide open". Everyone else is driving 80-90mph while "we" play by the rules and drive 65.... ie. maybe one legal alll night. After going out on opening night on a boat, i realized that theres no way to regulate it. Its too ez for people to take hundreds and not get caught. Plus i hate how we secretly loose our 4th amendment rights when we buy a fishing license. If u have a license, f&g can search ur house from probable cause (snitches). Had the harbor police show up on me all lowkey wearing shorts and hawaiian shirt, told me that i couldnt use 50lb mono as a stringer and that i have to get a proper one from the store, i know for damn sure it wasnt about the stringer, fking uptight locals snitching on everything even when i was 100% legal.

went last night at ob. caught 3 lobsters, 3 rock crabs, and 1 big croaker. the lobsters were all too small. the largest one being .25 inches below legal. not a lot of people and everyone there was actually following regulations for a change.

I call it selective enforcement. It's not like DFW doesn't know what is going on. I get DFW Officers are a limited resource, but how hard is it to step up enforcement during certain times of the year in problem areas? It's not. The DFW is just another cog in the California bureaucracy.

The fact that in my whole life I've only met one DFW officer should say something about how tightly things are enforced and how poorly they use their money.

Man If I could get commission for writing citations for these poachers I'd be at OB pier every day during lobster season... :emoji_grinning:
Agreed.. I think only ONCE in all the years that I have been in SD fishing (since I moved here in 2002) that I met one who came to check my license and gear when I was bay fishing. I was at Harbor Island fishing about a few years ago and I saw this guy in a white shirt and shorts go up to a few fisherman to the left of me and then he came up to me. When I saw him up close he had the DFW logo on his shirt and he asked to see my license and then ask how my fishing was going. Other then that... I have never encountered a DFW officer since while fishing the bay. Now the lakes are different.. more checkups.

Too bad we can't become like proxy DFW Officers and just give citations out to those at OB Pier for poaching... that could be interesting. Or better yet.. earn commission on how many citations we give out those who are poaching them lobsters.

Information from the call is relayed to the CDFW region where the offense occurred and an investigation is undertaken locally. If the information supplied by the caller results in an arrest the caller becomes eligible for a reward. (Rewards up to $1,000 have been paid.) The case is then reviewed by a volunteer citizen's group known as the "CalTIP Rewards Committee".

Its funny how the snitch can remain anonymous, ie. Not get introuble for heinous false claims. Ima start calling everytime someone is in my fishing spot.

Ahhhh sure wish I was 14 again, those were good days lol. I was checked once earlier this year at Silver Strand by an officer in a truck who asked if the surf perch were biting. I offered to show him my license and he said he wasn't checking them that day. I don't think I've ever seen anyone cracking down on the bucket brigade and other various people that keep dozens of 10" spotties. I've been checked in AZ 5 times so far this year and I barely even fish out there. A license is like 20 or 30 dollars from AZGF and they make great use of the money.
