First been a while since been on, with COVID and work I have not had a ton of time to cast. I try to drive down from OC to OB a few times a year with my Dad for a good day of fishing. He has been looking forward to it but wanted to know if 1. Pier is open and 2. What is being caught? he has been hunting for some Bonito and wanted to know if any have been spotted. Thanks in advance.

Went OB today with my dad since he wanted to catch 'macs'.

Man..... What a bonding moment, reminiscing the good ole days here.

Anyways, people were only catching 3" smelts from what I've seen.

Dark green water. Lots of garibaldi's at the surf though.

Fished morning to afternoon yesterday. Overcast conditions. Didn't see a single fish caught from either the pier rats, myself or tourists. No baitfish in sight, had a possible half hearted nibble in the reef. Might be better in the evening or night. SI pier has been more consistent especially if you chum.

Nah.. current just changed direction (swell push) and sucked some colder water against the coast from the north, happens sometimes.. warming back up now though

Any reports of bonito at OB pier yet? I thought about heading out earlier today in the early morning but decided to go to squidco instead.

Based on what i've seen and caught the last few days I'd be willing to bet there's some bonito around OB pier

I would tend to agree with them being around the pier, however they may be out of casting range.
Waiting on our resident expert ...
