was staying at the hotel past the jolly roger. we went fishing the whole day and caught many opal eye using squid and mackerel while our bigger poles casted out never got a bite. well night time rolled around and we started getting a lot of bites on squid but it wouldn't get the hook. well when i hook up i got a good size smelt IMG_3059.JPG well shortly after that i switch to the combat jigs og hell fire in the color summer craw where i got a small sculpin IMG_3060.JPG
and then i switched up to the trident by combat jigs. first cast with that bait i was just slowly bouncing off the rocks when i got snagged and when i bounce out of the rock im snagged in this little guy thumped it super hard IMG_3065.JPG IMG_3066.JPG not too long after while still using the trident i caught a small little guy IMG_3067.JPG we caught some more bass on squid but i didnt have pictures of them but earlier in the day my friend caught a blenny on a crappie jig IMG_3055.JPG

At one time i was a pretty avid opaleye fisher, a wintertime thing fishing them from shore in various spots in La Jolla. ALL those spots are now part of the "reserves":emoji_angry:. Day in and day out the best bait I've come across for opaleye is green peas. Bycatch(on the peas) back then was calico bass, senorita, kelpfish, blennies all kinds of stuff will eat the peas.

Loads of different fish eat peas and corn, even carrots.. problem is when you have to distance cast..
