Haven’t been fishing as much this year bc family stuff. Today took the 1961, 13 foot Boston whaler out with long rod newell guy . No live bait just jigs and old stuff from the freezer. I had the hot stick today. 7am - 1pm fishing hard bottom 40-80 feet deep.

What is the perch on the top of the photo. It's been a hundred years since I caught a Catalina blue perch, but it looks similar right?

Exactly what I think of when I see them. Caught lots of them as a kid fishing off Catalina Island. They’re also thick around Coronado Islands just off shore there. Blue Perch or Halfmoon Perch ?

They were also thick around Palos Verdes...Me and a friend used to dive and fish there... As kids and we would swim out to a rock, climb up and fill a tide pool full of them... The trick was to get them out of the tide pool and into a gunny sack before the tide came in... Fun times... Some times there was this non-English speaking Asian family collecting sea food and cooking in a pot right there.. We managed to communicate well enough to trade some of our fish for some of the sea food stew.. Or whatever it was (It tasted great on a cool morning after coming out the Pacific Ocean)...

Exactly what Werf said.. I would re visit that spot with jumbo 8” twin tail and 6oz. head. Fish the perimeter of that rock pile you guys found. Big prizes…

I always thought they were just big bass down there that rock me, maybe there is a ling or two. I was fishing 50lb braid to a 40lb fluorocarbon leader with my drag locked down on the lexa 400. Fishing a pretty large jig right on the rocks as soon as I get bit I’m pulling as hard as I can to get them out of there or else they rock me.
