I heard these are the hot bait for perch on the central coast. I picked up a pack. Carolina rigged and use in Cardiff. Two missed bites. Used in Del Mar. 1 corbina.
Used in Huntington Beach on Sunday. Big 0. They are stretchy and tough but I think if the surf fish are biting live bait or gulp is the way to go. But I will use it again. Let us know how it goes.

I never used those but gulp actually makes tiny redish/orange sandcrabs and those work pretty good

I used them in the surf and caught 7 perch on them this summer, caught 3 of them on three casts could have caught more but I wrecked my reel, sand got inside after I dropped it in the sand while releasing the fish I think I found a honey hole, who knows how many I might have caught if I didn’t wreck my reel. They definitely work

I'll anxiously be watching the forum for a report of a session. Good luck and I'm rooting for your success!!
That being said...I've thrown just about every packaged or cured bait that was supposed to be the next alternative to real, organic bait. IMO the true test to finding a suitable alternative - find a hole holding fish with real bait (because that's what works) then throw your packaged bait in the same hole. I've found that damn near every time its lights on for real bait and lights off for packaged bait. IDK, maybe I'm just a crummy angler and need that that organic bait edge.

K-BO, I’ve been searching for the “Holy Grail” of artificials for a long time. I’m a crummy fishermen when I use bait, so imagine what it’s like when I use artificial stuff. But, what the hell. If it works on YouTube and other, much better fishermen say it works, I’m in! Lol!!
I certainly will post my results. But, please, don’t disparage Z-man Crusteaz if my reports are less than stellar. After all, the only sure way I get fish is if I go to the supermarket. But I sure do love trying!!

Amen brother! I'm on a first name basis with the local north county fish mongers. In fact, there is an SDFish member lurking out there that works behind the counter at the Encinitas Lazy Acres. We wisper inside scoop and share pictures every Saturday morning.

I was looking for sand crabs at first but didn’t find any, so I used the CrusteaZ and it was my fist time catching any fish in the surf and I really know nothing about surf fishing I’ve been watching videos on finding structure, holes, troughs and I still feel clueless but amazingly I caught 3 nice size perch on my first three casts and then came back 2 weeks later and caught some more at the same spot, I’m not sure sand crabs are fished in the bays but next time I fish my favorite spot in the bay I’m going to give them a try. Does anybody fish real SC or CrusteaZ in the bays?

Alright cats, I’m going to TP first light to throw these bugs and see what the heck happens.
I’ve got them on a Carolina rig, 3/4oz slip and a 2 ft, 6lb fluorocarbon leader. As for the business end, I slid a #4 straight shank up it’s toosh and out it’s head.
It looks like the tide will be incoming for whatever that’s worth.
Might just take my go pro, although I don’t know how to use it.
In any case, I’ll report in after the adventure.

I caught a couple school sized beans on some imported crabs that I brought to my first Shore Pounder event. The event was on Mission Point and fish were caught in Mariners Basin. IMG_20181021_073431.jpg

I like that, I haven’t caught a bean yet but I’ve seen them swimming around avoiding my bait.

They work. I’ve caught beans, perch, and rays on them. Carolina 3/4 oz weight, 2’ fluoro, and #2 straight worm hook. Good luck!

Last picture is of how the rig looked after the Batray battle.. lol

    UPDATE:
Well, My neighbors decided that it was a good idea to stay up all night making noise...so consequently I didn't get any sleep at all. Barely able to drag myself to the table for coffee this morning. Piss. I'll have to wait for the trial till I return from out of town trip next week.

Please...if you're using these bugs, keep posting pictures and reports here. I like seeing the results and it inspires and motivates me as well..

Don’t you love those nights. Sorry to hear it ruined your fishing plans!

at least once a month, we have someone scream in the middle of the night like their kid fell in the pool, then next thing is a bunch of people cheering. Sometimes weeknights, some weekends. Gotta love inconsiderate people lol

Just got back into town. I have a repair guy coming over tomorrow and then I’m cleared for fishing. Can’t wait to get those bugs in the water.
So, can some of you experienced surf guys give me a couple of options as to time and location that I can hit? Looking at the projected tides and using your experience.
I like TP, but that’s because I fished it more then anywhere else so far. But if there’s a better spot for this time of year and the current tides, please chime in. Thanks.

Early as possible. Walk until you see unusual waves/sideways or V shaped (read the waves/beach)
