KPBS was talking about it today. They said Huntington Beach would get the worst of it.

I lived in Carpinteria during the Santa Barbara oil spill. It appears that one was somewhere around 8 -10 times worse.

This is gonna impact the area that I fish... There are a couple of wetland areas that could also be affected... Who knows what long term fishery impacts will be...

A couple pics i found online. Not sure how much oil leaked exactly but it started aprox 5 miles offshore. That's a lot for it to reach the coast

We are so dependent on oil - but it is still a horrible mess.

After Hazelwood's OOPS in 1989 , AKA Exxon Valdez , 11 million gallons , even after the cleanup efforts you can to this day dig a hole on most beach areas around prince William Sound and watch it fill with oil sheen . At least they appear to have got this one stopped @ 125K gallons . Could have been worse I suppose . Will be interesting to watch the clean up effort . On other incidents IE. Santa Barbara , 1969 The Trader tanker off Huntington , 1990 , they wouldn't allow volunteer workers to help other than at wildlife rehabilitation centers . WR

I'm not an expect on decay analysis of fish - but wouldn't it take a while for the eyes to be gone vs 1 day?
