Hi all I was wondering if opaleye school in areas with garibaldi around. I noticed some garibaldis are kinda aggressive and chase other garibaldis away. Do they chase the opaleyes away too? Thanks.

Everytime I see a garibaldi, I move cuz I feel like its chasing away other fish. I see them chase stuff underwater. So it made me unsure if other fish dislike garibaldis.

They are pretty territorial, so yeah I guess other fish would 'dislike' them. Still, I've never found a shortage of other fish around an aggressive garibaldi.

They are a nuisance but don't pull one up if you can help it.

I don't even want to catch it, I have seen them chase their own species away. Idk why.

The smart ones are chasing the stupid ones cause the stupid ones are allowed to live and humans can't help clear out the population lol

Damselfish are very territorial and ornery. So much so that I won’t even have one in my reef tank anymore. Had more than one murder other fish (not cheap in the aquarium hobby!) just for being around.
More like the pigeons of the bay.

I've never found them hurting the bite on other fish including bass and opal eye. My friend fishes and actively targets opal eye along the jetties and catches very large ones. He told me he does hook a garibaldi once in a great while and says he just tries not to pull them out of the water but unhooks them along the rocks and cuts them loose. If you want I will introduce you guys.
