Saw this guy about 40 yards away hovering in the air before dive bombing on a good size corbina. Frijoles on the menu for breakfast.

It tried to fly off with it several times but it was too heavy.

So it was breakfast on the beach today.

Even bit off a piece and hooked up the homie.

Spent a good 10-15 minutes recording in awe. Always cool to see the local osprey at work. This was the closest I had one stalk it's prey and go for the kill. Also first time I saw one dismantle it's food.

    Also, not to be outdone...

Super cool pics! The osprey earned that bean the hard way. I’ve seen a ton of ospreys in Florida but not as many around here.

    Cool pics!

Now I look in the trees when fishing MB. Last spring an osprey pounced on 2 different fish that were coming in at SP event (I think projectman and JOE HAMMOND were the ones reeling fish in). That bird was hungry..and suicidal!

They're amazing birds. Years ...decades...ago, I saw one grab a trout at Chollas Lake, then fly toward the dam. The fish wiggled free, and was falling....and the bird dove down and grabbed it out of the air. I didn't have my instamatic handy, so....but here's one from Memaloose State Park on the World Famous Columbia River....carrying a smallmouth bass....

I have had an osprey snatch a spottie on 2 occasions just as I was lifting it out of the water while float tubing. Scares the crap out of a person when that happens.

Right in front (west) of the J-street Marina channel entrance is an osprey nest on one of the poles. Often there is a bird on the nest, gives everyone the evil eye.

Years ago I had the resident osprey that lived in the big tree overlooking Lake Poway grab a trout from me while tubing. Both times he came from behind and scared the heck out of me making the snatch 10-15 feet in front of me. :emoji_frowning:

Vicious aggressive, territorial I guess from my observation...
Seen one on dozens of occasions trying to aggressively attack, scream, attempt to chase off a much larger Bald Eagle at my local spot as the B.E. flys through at times....

They play a randomly timed recording of the Osprey screech at the fields for LA Galaxy to scare off other birds. I was looking all over that stadium for the bird when I finally tracked down the speaker in the tunnel LOL. When I had a boat slipped at HIW and spent a lot of time on it I kind of figured out the local Osprey on to that patch of land and he scared the hell out of all other birds. When he flew off the perch everything bailed out until he settled into his flight path. Nice job on standing your own ground Skrilla and showing him you were not to be outdone.

That’s sick! Pretty cool to see one in its entirety, flying, spotting, and diving for the prize.

    Dope vid.

I remember another member ( mike808? ) posting a GoPro of him releasing a fish and an osprey swooping in right after. Now I'm always scanning the bluffs on my way to ********. :emoji_wink:
