So I went out fishing today and managed to hook and lose three fish. Went home and decided to get my lure off my backpack. And i had my off hand next to it and as I got part if it of a feel a pain in my left thumb. My only response was "well thats not good". At the moment at urgent care and all a can think is they better not destroy my lure. Today has been a great day!

You can use 65 or 80lbs braid to remove the hooks from your hand as long as they are not in the bone.

Barb is deep and I dont want to just rip it out if it was a normal hook I would remove it myself but it's a treble hook.

Yeah, definitely not fun and lots of pain! Would have been fine if it were just the lure/hook, but the entire weight of my kayak sitting on top of it with my rod bent pulling my skin made it 100 times worse!

    :)

Sounds way more fun! Well I'm back home and feeling good. Me and my mom had the tell the nurse what to do because she had no clue what she was doing. She didnt put enough lidocaine so It hurt really bad. It didnt help that she keep moving the hook back and forth and side to side. She didnt even cut past the barb and tried to pull it back through because she was to scared to cut closer to my skin. In the end we got it out. Next time I will try and do it myself because I don't need a repeat of that. Enjoy the pictures after the removal.

Agreed had filippo out in less than 5 seconds. Should of just man up and poll it out. Small hook just poll. You do it to a fish your hands can handle it. I work in a OR seen and fixed far far worse. And the plus side you get to keep fishing.

I once took a friend to urgent care for a nice 3/0 tuna hook embedded in his hand. He didn't let me operate. Wouldn't let anyone touch him. The clinic didn't have anything to cut the barb off.......so I ran to my vehicle and presented a rusty pair of ****s. The doctor looked at me dumbfounded. I snapped the tip off with a big click......

    And I didn't even charge a co-pay! He did....Ha ha!

    Lmao that's hilarious.

I remember maybe a year or two ago, I had a tackle box on the coffee table that was full of treble hooks, crankbaits, luckycrafts, and some other various hard baits. It was left unattended for a solid 30 seconds when my German shepherd starts frantically running around the house with a mouthful of lures. They were stuck in his tongue, in his lips, in his face, in his nose, there was a crankbait with one hook in his top lip and one in his bottom and he was trying to open his mouth to bark about it... ugh that was a nightmare. He learned his lesson though, he's always very careful when he sees lures out now.

Had one incident where my dad got a sabiki hook in his finger and while trying to remove it, it broke off and they had to go and retrieve the rest of it in his hand.

Other than that I have either cut the barb off after pushing it through or been able to remove it by hand. When I worked on the Fortune we used the braid method (jerking it out) and it was fast. Doesn't feel good however you do it but its something that you will learn as the years go by. Fortunately it doesn't happen as often as you would think.

haha I read your post and was just finishing up laughing that it was censored and then read your follow up.

Tuna for me tomorrow....hopefully. Definitely no 3/0 hooks anywhere in the body....apparently they are all getting bit on size 1 and 2.
