Fished on the Baja Raider again yesterday.
Little swell and wind but otherwise great conditions
Got to the kelp around 630a and got hit almost right away.
3 anglers managed 12 sheep head 2 calicos and a lingcod (released)
Using shrimp and squid in about 40ft of water.
I got hooked up to something that peeled drag and made a big run, unfortunately it came off right before we saw what it was.
This was a boat test and will be hitting the tuna in the next trip

We had a couple where it took a bit to get in. The sheepy in the picture was a good little test of patience and a little luck. I had to let it run out of the kelp just enough to get loose

Nice, I was talking about your boat, looks like you were DEEP in the kelp. I’ve seen guys get so buried and trouble getting out. I’ve been buried once, couldn’t get the motor started and drifted in. Looked a lot like your pic

Ok. We have a great solution for this. We had a grappling hook made where we throe it out over the kelp and pull our way out. It's work but it's surprising how fast we can get out to a clearing, drop the motor and get out.
We had our welder friend make it. He may make other if the price is right

Had a buddy who burned up his motor because the kelp sucked up against his water intakes.

If you take a piece of rebar and put a thin pool noodle chunk on the shank part big enough to float it, it will always float point down...

Has anyone ever tried tossing a frog in the kelp when its that thick? Or what about flipping and pitching a T rigged crawfish?

Haven’t personally tried but I heard from a couple reputable sources of it being done with good results, yeah calicos. This was years ago

This is happening and will be happening for years to come. Toss it up..Walk the frog right off the edge give it a few kicks and your usually on.
