Haven’t surf fished in several years. So I brought a rod with me for a quick outing to OB with my brother and nephew from MD on beach day. Introduced my nephew to sand crabs (he’s 3), and my bait maker was on task shortly thereafter. Pinned a nice sand crab on and waded out a little. Noticed a nice corbina about 4’ in front of me and pitched out in front the direction it was headed. Bendo about 10 seconds later. Stoked on the sight fish! We unhooked the corbina and released to continue sand crab patrol. I also caught a small leopard shark which my nephew got to touch and help release. The kid was stoked!! Good day at the beach.

That's awesome! Every once in awhile catching corbina can be that easy (but not usually).

Very nice corbina... Sounds like the little bait gatherer had a good time too...

Years ago, my fishing buddy and I were, very stealthy, chasing this big corb up and down a beach... We were fly lining sand crabs with no extra weight at it... This guy walks up with a big heaver, a 4oz pyramid sinker and just plunks it beside the fish... The corb bit , and he walked away with a +24" corbina... Maybe a reaction bite?

i was going to comment that the title of this post didn't make sense to me, until I realized it's about tropical bonefish and not their little cousins from south san diego bay : )
