Finished with school finals, so I decided to head out to poway for the evening bite, got there at around 1:30 and was on my first fish at 1:40, big school of about 15-20 trout came in and out every 5-10 minutes, but were very shy on what they would bite. Right when one of the schools came in, I realized 2 or 3 split off to go out deep, so I casted my mini jig as far as I could and let it sink to mid water column, and started jigging. Right when I started jigging...bam! Big bass decided to eat the mini jig and started taking off with it. Fought it for about 5-10 minutes before it finally came in. 4 pound even according to Dylan 101 scale. Ended up getting another trout after that, and missed about 5 or 6 more. This was my 4th bass this year over 3 pounds...what an insane start for 2021!

Excellent! Bigger than Vinny's bass at Murray.

Good one Rob! How has Jennings been? :)
Yes, that bass beat my 3 1/2 pounder from Murray and catching a bass at Poway is pretty darn cool this time of year with so many fishermen fishing for trout. Nice job Stephan Deambrogio. I used to fish Poway a lot years ago and when they would start stocking trout....I headed to other lakes to bass fish. Its always fun to catch a nice bass, especially in the winter in a clear lake like Poway.
Tight lines and thanks for the report.

Stephan Deambrogio .....I used to fish near that log line a lot, especially in the summer. From that shoreline...if you rented a boat and went just past the first metal barrow out and tied to the log line, here has rocks on both sides of it and a great spot to fish plastic worms. Especially the side towards the dam. I used to make long casts into deep water and bring the worm in slowly and used to do pretty good there. Or across the lake where the log line hits the other shoreline used to be a good spot also. There is also a rock pile down a ways on the main lake side of the log line where I fished ofter there with pretty good success. Oh heck.....you probably know those spots and the lake better today than me as I used to fish there years ago. Again...nice job and looking forward to many more fish reports. Tight lines my friend. :)

Thanks man! I've been grinding that lake for a little over a year now, and nothing is more rewarding than catching big fish

I bet in a few months you are going to be hauling out some nice bass when they start to move in to spawn. That water is clear as heck as you know and don't be afraid to make longer casts and some casts kind of parallel to the shore as best you can. When you can see the bass, they can see you too. You can pick off the ones that are close if you have the patience, but some of the bigger ones may be just out of view so don't forget to cast a little deeper sometimes.
Heck...now I want to come up there and fish. Maybe in a few months I will have to make a trip or two up there..... :)

I've picked off a few this past year on some bigger swimbaits (hudds, swavers, etc.) So I'm waiting for spawn so I can go sightfish the big girls

You are already set then with the swimbaits..............you may have to show me a few tricks(we just won't let mcfish know about them or he will be up at Poway all the time ....ha ha). Take care for now and tight lines. :)
