Hi, trout newbie again. I've been scheduling my fishing trips to clear, mild days - ideally when it's been clear and warm-ish for a few days.

The reason for this is because I've read that cold, rainy weather puts the fish to sleep and even after the rain there's still a lull in activity for a while - the best time to fish is, apparently, just before a big rain.

Has this ever checked out true in your experience? This week it's 'rained', but mostly light rains and it wasn't too cold. Will the fish have changed their behavior too drastically now?

I like fishing in the rain .. hell, the other day, it was the only time I got bit by the bigger fish, was when it was sprinkling

Biggest rainbow that I ever caught was in the rain by the store at Lake Cuyamaca. On Power Bait.

My biggest trout was a 6lb male, in the rain at JENNINGS. I’ve caught some good size Salmon in the rain on the Feather river, I think if you can handle getting wet the fish still bite.

Trout wont bite in the rain, they look for cover because they don't like getting wet.
All jokes aside i think its just the muddy water that may shut down bite during the rain.

If it rains to the point the water is muddy then probably the bite will slow. But I find when it starts raining the trout become active and move to the surface.

Trout don’t care about the rain. They care about which day of the week it is.
