RAT Beach is just South of Torrance Beach (RAT = right after Torrance). I found more crabs today and got these little guys (~10" to 12") to bite close to shore just after high tide. Almost no waves and clear water.

Nice pic of Malaga Cove. I used to surf Ave. C back in my younger days.

Nice beach. I've seen a number of reports of sand crabs at some of the OC and LA beaches which surprises me because (to my knowledge) none or very few if any are being found on the SD county beaches and our water temps are 3 - 5 degrees warmer than up north. No wonder you're still finding corbina. Are the crab beds visible or are you having to dig deep? Anyone down here finding any & where ?

I use a sand crab rake and kick sand into it as the water rushes back out. So far I've been blind digging and I find 1 crab about every 4 or 5 waves. Enough to fish with, but not abundant. No visible beds and I would say the crabs are about 6 inches deep.

Yeah, went to OB last Saturday and saw a nice Corb. Didn't see any beds but like Coach said probably some by the rocks.

I was taking one of those long walks on the beach with my favorite lucky craft earlier this week and spotted a bean swim past me then later stumbled upon a bed of nice sized sand crabs. It was not a huge bed, about 4-6 sf. I was kinda surprised and automatically started to switch over to a c-rig but stopped and ended up sticking with the plug. I’m trying to stay committed as I haven’t gotten a lucky craft bite in a while... it did not come that day either haha.

Edit: this was the Oceanside area.

Thanks. Always wondered what the surf guys up there were talking about when saying went to the RAT. Got to be a lot of work to dig that rake in deep to get a few. Glad you were rewarded.
