So it has been a painfully skunky spring for me, maybe one fish every 5h outing or so. I was up north of Oceanside on the beach this past weekend and threw numerous different baits and flies into the surf for about 3 hours without any bites or anything. Finally moved to one of the jetties and threw a drop-shot sand worm and got this little bugger on the first cast, a real monster from the deep. Stayed for another hour after that and proceeded to loose several weights and jigs. I know those dang things are out there, but they are really good at hiding from me that's for sure.

Cute little ambush killing machine. From the recent posts you are bound to get a legal one. Keep moving and casting.

Surf halibut are a tough target. They are definitely there, but you will take some skunks finding them for sure. If that's the goal, commit to it and you'll find them. I will say its unnerving how many 18-21.999 inch halibut there are in the surf..
