Beautiful morning out here in Del Mar; fished the incoming tide with gentle waves and almost no salad. Perfect conditions. I hook onto a fish. Feels like a decent one. As I’m reeling in, something in my reel snaps and the crank doesn’t work anymore. It just hasn’t been the same since I dropped it in the sand a month ago; and I guess something in it broke while I was fighting the fish. Ended up pulling it in with my bare hands: a baby leopard. ******** it lol. Obviously couldn’t fish anymore after that.

RIP to my 30 dollar kastking. You will he sorely missed.

Bummer! Ever thought about carrying two set ups? Or maybe just an extra reel in your bag?

This reel has served me 2 1/2 years so I don’t think that’s possible. I have been planning to upgrade, so this just gives me an excuse to do so.

Lol! My reels are cheap ($25). Don’t jump on me for buying from Walmart, but they offer a warranty for $2. I had to use it on a reel I bought which seized on me. I filed a claim, and they sent me a check to buy a new one. They didn’t even want me to send the old one in.

Battles are aight. Honestly the Fuego 3k and 2.5k are pretty legit in my book.

I'll try the 2.5k out; it's cheaper than the penn and the reviews are good.

The battle is a nice reel, the 4k size is fairly heavy though weight wise. Daiwa BG, Fuego LT, Shimano Nasci, Okuma RTX, the battle....all really nice reels in the 80-100$ range. If you want to stay cheaper, okuma safina is a tank for 25$. Sharky 3 gets a lot of mileage as well around 50.

The BG over the battle as far as weight and smoothness.
If you’re looking to stay on a budget, the penn wrath is hard to beat. No ones talking about it, but sheesh. The 2500 is $30 and it’s pretty smooth compared to any other $30 reel out there. Heck I think it competes with anything leading up to the level of a Bg or battle tbh. Build is pretty awesome for the price.

Better off with the pursuit or sharky, IMO

Ended up going with the Daiwa Fuego 2500 reel; also looking to get a salmon/steelhead rod to go with it and chuck the LC. Okuma seems to have some good ones.

I have an okuma sst and a celilo, both are nice rods. You'll like the fuego, it's a nice reel. Hopefully it was still on sale at various places. A few months ago I was in the market for a couple new spinners, everything I was looking at was on sale at one place or another, ended up buying 4 reels lol.

I use the Battle primarily. I love the reel. Only work I’ve had to do is put a little oil on the shaft. Great reel!

Not sure which tackle website I saw it on, but it’s in pre order. Looks sexy af. Purchase worthy? Definitely going to have to hold one in hand
