I’m going in a half day charter soon. I will be fish for so red and orange fishies that live at the bottom. I have the 4000 penn pursuit and a 7ft I think heavy action rod. Is that good. The reel has 30 lb braid on it. I also have 15 and 30 lb leader too.

It will work, not ideal though, especially if you end up fishing at 300 feet.

Even on a half day, you may well end up fishing 300+ feet...you could use the spinner but conventional would be more efficient

If you are going to do more of these may make sense to buy a cheap conventional setup. Nothing fancy, even an old penn would work for half days.

I think I have two setups right now that would work fine if you're inclined. Won't find them cheaper elsewhere.

You could always get a rental that would fit the situation just in case . Take a few bigger chunks of lead also , helps to get down on the spot quick especially if not anchored . The 30 lb leader will do it , a couple of short dropper loops or a dropper loop and a heavy jig as the lead . Good luck hope to see a good report !

My two friends have used the exact same set up a couple of times this year and it worked fine.
Not the best, but it will work.

I would go up to at least 10 oz in 2 oz increments and if you can afford it up to 16 oz.
