    Hey everyone!
It’s been a super busy week so it took me a while to post this. Headed out to the Big Bay on Saturday and launched the tube from Tidelands. Got out at first light (7?) and the bite was immediately on and stayed on for 5 hours. Had not hit this area for a while but always love the return trip. Within 50 yards of the shore had my first spotty and it was a great consistent bite all day. Final count was
    53 spotted bay bass
    2 calicos
    1 sand bass
    1 halibut
    2 mackerel
    1 corvina
    1 smelt

I was fishing a Gulp 3” minnow in Smelt color on an 1/8 oz. jig head on 6 lb test. Such a fun day! I had a couple great beers (Shark Attack from Port and Electrojet from Modern Times). I tried other baits ( spinnerbaits, larger jigs, fly fishing, etc.) but they all seemed to want the small baits. I started with an incoming tide with a good surge. The only slow period was for about 20 minutes when the tides changed. I got off the water around 1 not because the fishing slowed but that I just had stuff to do. None of the fish were huge but a long term consistent bite was so much fun. I did see others fishing but not so many catching. If you haven’t done the ultralight bay bite you’re definitely missing out. Any fish becomes super fun.

If you want to see more details and see the beer tasting you’re welcome to check out the YouTube video.

Cheers all! See you out there!

    What rod/reel are you using?

Thank you! The rod is a G Loomis 6’7” fast action TSR 792 panfish rod and the reel is a Shimano Stratic C14 1000.

I can but I fish from a float tube. Disposing of excess liquid from beer is possible in a float tube (speaking as a guy) but not convenient.
I keep bass and beer as separate activities.

Mostly 10-13ft. Tried some deeper areas but not a bite.

LOL. I looked for the picture of your bloody shirt, but I couldn't find it.
You caught one of the biggest spotties ever that day. 3.6 (I think?) or 3.4?

(My boat)The Seether's motto was; "Fish through the pain." You did.

That picture is lost on my photobucket account. My old photobucket albums got so bombarded by ads they became inaccessible.

Totally man! A great day for sure. Super memorable. I remember you saying that we needed to video him cutting out the lure. Who knew? Well I guess you did.

By the way this is the actual jig head from that day. I keep it on my desk. It reminds me every day about the need for quick twitch reflexes since I teach martial arts.

I love beer and fishing from my tube, but I just can't do it with waders on (and I pretty much always wear waders). Nice outing!

Quick twitch reflexes don’t help much after getting 2 hours of sleep and then fishing the kelp with high water snags. A one to two oz weight comes loose from a surface snag at 800 -900 fps. And you’re in for a potential hole in the head. I’ve had a 1oz egg weight come loose and tear flesh on the side of my face as it whistled by. Luckily the hook and leader had snapped. Jigs stuck on top kelp.. duck and hide ! ( if you can’t back up on it ).
