took my skiff out today hoping to get some offshore action/ short story got the Helmet
Long version..launched at 600 from south shores ramp entered Quivera basin for bait and the line was surprisingly long 21 boats..... bait was perfect sized sardines ...headed toward the 9 mile bank (upper) 10 knots or less wind small swell water temp 70 seemed devoid of life so headed out to border line then out to 182 trolled a cedar plug and a feather to no avail saw no paddies and no dolphin but a few whales on the way out a few spots of birds but seemed dead...at 182 water was 72 finally saw a paddy but was empty
Navy was working out there and more boats at 182 even a few sport bats all searching. Radio chatter all day was how dead it was ...Was told water at the corner was a cool 68 degrees and the 43 was a chilly 66

headed back toward home not much going on then about 3 miles outside the upper nine found multiple big paddies some huge ones but all loaded w/bait but no predators one paddy had a small 10 lb. yellowtail come out of the final paddy but he had lockjaw so headed home back on the trailer at 530 I wish i had better news for you but this was the experience of today. Plan you weekend trips accordingly. This tired old dude needs a shower and some sleep.

Tough day for sure. At least the water is starting to warm up again.

Appreciate the report. Just curious -- what kind of skiff do you have?

Ah, OK thanks... I ask since occasionally I'll head out solo to the 9 on my 17 footer. Haven't been out any further though. (handheld VHF only). I'll give it a try one of these days...

I don't know this gentleman, but I like his "trust the process" outlook...
