HEY THERE SUCKA CHUMPS! Report for the ol riv from Texas street to under the 163. Starting off at Texas street I was whipping around a sinko in the hopes a bass would slurp it up like mommas blue berry cobbler!...that didnt happen.
I just managed to see a carp about as long as my leg, it shimmied around and gluped up the skum line. I hustled out of that spot in search of another to cast around. A lovely homeless man suggested I follow him down to this path to the bank of the river where you can cast......I continued on my path. BRINGING ME TO THE NEXT SPOT! A bunch of waterfowl were still molting and guzzling up the water in this area. HOW BEAUTIFUL! Out of the fowl selection we had the ever beautiful coot! the ol ivory beak!

I switched to a simple white jig here. Not the dance either! ha ha ha! I managed to catch only a few very small gill/perch here. The local bank dwellers recommend eating these dinks with some road salt and hate to seasoning. If you just shimmy, shuffle, and slunk west that brings you near the 163 bridge. Again here just got a few dinks, nothing special. HOWEVER! The harlem crane were swooping down and attacking the pedestrians, my grandfather warned me of the harlem crane and how they are known for pecker poppers! So watch out boys and girls!!

Maybe people that fish The SD river could start a gallery of photos of homeless guys so we could know which ones are cool and which ones are scary.
I fished the San Diego River for decades, of course that was decades ago and maybe one time ran into somebody that was homeless......I guess the times have changed.

I've heard that river water is dangerous. Didn't know it was hallucinogenic!

Hey fisheromen ..... I tried to get your bag of Senkos back like you asked me from this guy that you met at the river.
He said you were really nice and told me you gave them to him. Sorry....I tried

I was walking under the 163 with rod in hand in the same direction as a transient and we struck up a conversation. Nice guy named "Redneck". He told me that if anyone gave me trouble, just tell them that I know "Redneck" and they'd leave me alone. Haven't had to use it yet, though.

Hope it helps.....I have not fished down there in years, but caught lots of bass many decades ago tin the SD River. My dad used to warn me to be careful because I fished towards the evenings. Never ran into any problems....but today I would be armed just in case. Hopefully "Redneck" is well known or respected, but what about the guys that hate him.......?
    Just saying.....

So is fishing the river worth it? Im looking to venture out there but, if its riddled with homeless people and Hep A I think im going to have to pass. Deal with enough homeless people outside of stores etc. dont think I want to deal with them while fishing to....

The city has just recently swept through and cleared out the camps. There used to be a bunch between MCR and the 163, but as of last week they weren't there. A few remain across the river near the 163, but I haven't had a problem.

Did they put up one of those hand wash stations out by the 163? I haven't done a lunch fishing sesh in a while.

As for the fishing situation, I guess it depends on what you're fishing for. Carp are abundant, I think bluegill are too. As for the bass situation, I think they're there, but you might have to go off the beaten path (or be a better fisherman than me, lol). If you go to any of the popular spots (MCR, 163, Camino del Este, etc) they're riddled with discarded fishing trash, lots of pressure.

I think green sunfish and bullheadsbare everywhere.. Bass are too, just much harder to catch.. Was surprised when I caught that tiny one on the cicada lure the other day in a creek...
