So who thinks the San Diego is going to find the Yellowtail on their first trip of the year this Saturday?

12 people on the trip so far with high hopes and dreams! :)

Weather turns pretty nice on Thursday. Sunny and in the low 70's throughout the weekend. Moderate wind and swell expected throughout the weekend, too.

Good chance.. saw some bird piles to the north a week or so ago that looked like they were working hard, a breezer or two close enough to shore to cast to, as well...

If they do find a school, you can bet that every boat in the city is gonna swamp the grounds on Sunday. Lots of hungry anglers chomping at the bit for some YT action (myself included). However, I think the Grande and Mission Belle have been running to the islands fairly regularly and their counts are mainly rockfish, etc.

Would sure be nice to dust off the iron and go YT fishing...

Finding them and getting them to bite are two completely different stories. But looks like with a couple days leading up to the weekend of good weather and not much wind, the chances of the water warming up a degree or two and finding a school willing to bite is about as good as it can get for right now.

And if you want to dust of the iron, go fishing calicos!

Yep, yep... would love to be one of the people out on that boat chasing some YT. As it is, I might just take the SUP out and chase calicos and YT around MB or LJ. Sort of a win, win... as long as the wind doesn't blow too hard, because it's not the best experience being out there on a SUP fighting a strong wind.

I was fishing off the point Loma sportfishing dock yesterday morning. One of the sportboats was heading out and I heard the captain on the loudspeaker say that the day before (Saturday) they saw either large bonito or bluefin tuna by the islands.

I sure hope they bite! I’ll be on the Grande Saturday. They blanked on the yellows last Saturday.

When the weather allows kayak guys have legitimate chance to catch la jolla yellows any day of the year.

100 grand on their recent boat service? Serious or somewhat exaggerated?

Wonder how much those guys spend on their annual boat service on average.

100k is easy to spend when you are looking at electronics thrown in with all the normal work done to keep the boat (edit:) seaworthy and pass coast guard inspection.

And if it needs to be hauled out it would be super easy to spend that. I don't know how much a haul out is exactly but I know it's expensive haha.

And if a repower needs to be done?

Tons of things that add up.

Any of you guys notice the new lo-an in the boat yard in the southwestern corner of quivira. The boat’s visible and right by the road as you drive into the parking lot at hospitality point.

Giant azz bonito... got one of them yesterday. However conditions were very different, none of the bird action from before was the same.

As for Yellowtail, there is always Yellowtail at the islands and in La Jolla. It’s a matter of being on top of your game and having the patience to fish hard for them. If the San Diego goes out to the islands you’re probably not going to see fish feeding up top, that water is 58-59 degrees. Lots of overgrown mackerel but not of the fun stuff. You can find them pretty easily in LJ if you get out at the right time.

Cleaned the bilges on it... Big thing is new railing and a new sonar, same one that Steve got for the Point Loma. New frame for the bucket.

Easy? Not sure a lot of people would agree with that. :) I did not fish LJ much last year. I got my SUP in the middle of June and caught a bunch of calicos but no YT! But by all accounts, LJ fished really tough for YT last year. This year looks pretty promising so far, though.

San Diego head count for Saturday stands at 37/53. Get your spot before the boat fills up!!! :)

Anybody know how the San Diego fishes with 53 anglers on the boat? 53 is a tight pack on pretty much any boat, but some boats can handle it better than others.

I have fished the Mission Belle with around 40/45, its tight. I usually fish the side of the boat (yeah I know it's worse fishing) but also it's less tangles.
