My good buddy k2rider83 have been planning to get back out on the water for awhile now but it's hard when I can't get weekends off, plus I've been really busy at work for the past few months and taking care of personal things. Due to the 3 day weekend, we decided to hit up San V as k2rider83 has been fishing it quite often and doing fairly well. He promised he could put me on some fish at San V, hehe. We got there at 5am and noticed only a couple of boats lined up. Weather was pretty cloudy with some slight sprinkling of rain here and there and the air temps were actually fairly cold, around low 50s. Water level was high, wayyy high and there was an algae bloom going on. We were the first to launch and k2rider83 quickly pulled us up into an area and started frogging right away. Within 10mins he got a bite and landed our first fish of the day, on the FROG! (PAGING RamonaAngler ). I was messing with a popper but they weren't having any of it. After k2rider83 got another frog blow up, I quickly put down the popper and broke out the frog too. On my 3rd cast, deep into some thick brush, I got a nice aggressive blowup and brought a nice 3.5lber into the boat!! (k2rider83 made me the Asian peace sign pose for this pic, lol) YEEEEAAA BOIIIII!! IT'S OFFICIALLY FROGGIN' SEASON YA'LL!! lolol. Anyone that knows me and fishes with me knows I LOVE getting em on frogs. Felt so good to finally get my first frog/topwater bass of the year and my first official frog bass at San V, because she's been quite stingy to me for the past 2 years lol. We continued to work the area and kept to froggin. K2rider83 got some more bites but lost em. Sadly, the frog bite would be short lived when the sun started to peak out a bit more and more. We decided to just flip the brush as it seemed the bass were holding tight. I flipped the Ika, at the behest of k2rider83, because he started smashing them on it lol. On 3 back to back casts, k2rider83 picked up 3 decent bass and told me to catch up! I picked up another decent bass soon after on the ika here: That would be our pattern for the rest of the day. Look for fishy areas and flip the brush and points with ikas, senkos and drop shot. K2rider83 started whacking em good because he was more patient with the Ika and drop shot. I still kept trying to frog here and there and throw other reaction baits. We broke off a lot of fish and weeded through a lot of dinks like this guy: (Note: This is about the size of bass I usually catch here at San V lol) As the sun got higher, the bite started to slow down, even though it was kind of a party cloudy day with some slight wind here and there. By 2pm tho, the wind started to pick up good and started pushing us around. We then made a run to the other side of the lake and I told k2rider83 to pick up his Swaver and start tossing it, specifically at a sunken tree. He was a bit reluctant as he said it's been tough trying to get bit on it but earlier in the day he did a swipe on it so I encouraged him to throw it again. After a few reel turns, we both noticed that his swaver seemed to be hung up on a tree as it had just kind of stopped gliding, but in reality it was stuck on a big ol bass and she immediately opened her mouth and shook her head. K2rider83 immediately wound down and set the hook in an instant and fought her way to the boat. I jumped for the net immediately and got her safely into the boat. She was the skinniest longest bass I've ever seen lol. We tried to fish a bit more but we were getting tired and we both called it a day. It was for sure the best day of fishing at San V for the both of us, but mainly k2rider83 because he brought in all the bigger bass. I only caught one 3.5lber and a 2.2lber and the rest were dinks. k2rider83's two biggest bass of the day: 4.5 and a 5lber Our best five of the day: I believe our total best 5 weighed in at 19lbs, while catching about 20 or so bass. Pretty darn epic day for us and so glad San V finally gave me good action lol.
