I’ve been behind on the posting due to some of the issues the site has had but I figured I should update on a nighttime yak trip I took earlier this week. Headed out around midnight to try out the new combo I bought from Chriwilson and 619Angler. The setup worked great! Definitely a lot more power than my old freshwater bass rod when keeping the sandies away from the structure. Fishing was slow overall; managed a few decent sand bass at the start including one that narrowly escaped a sea lion or shark. The barge bite slowed down a lot from the spring and it only produced a few sand bass, a couple sculpin, a calico, a couple Macks, and a surprise big smoothhound that inhaled my swimbait and took me on a ride. If anyone’s interested in targeting the bay sharks and rays there have been a lot around for people soaking bait. Lots of horn sharks, smoothhounds, guitarfish, bat rays, etc. I bet dropper looping a live Mack would get something huge.

Finished the night off as the sun came up by going after some spotties in heavy structure. Was looking for quality over quantity so I tried a larger bait and caught a good one and another sand bass. Caught my last fish at around 5:30am and headed back to the launch. It’s time to try yak fishing during the day to target halibut; I need to find a solid day to give it a go because most of my fishing windows are at night/early morning/sundown. Tight lines
