To celebrate the end of winter quarter my dad wanted to come into town and fish. He's had his own float tube for awhile that he's used at some of the Mt. Hood lakes in Oregon for trout but hadn't ever tried tubing in the salt. I told him to bring his tube, waders, and a light spinning setup and I'd provide the rest. We headed out in the morning to a favorite spot (you can definitely tell where it is but it's definitely not a secret to anyone and I hate blurring the backgrounds of photos) at around 7am during the last half of the outgoing. I hate it when tides run the way they were today with low tide in the middle of the day but we still found a decent morning bite. We were able to find a handful of spotties (including a few decent ones), as well as a few short halibut which were fun on the light rod. As the tide slackened the action completely stopped and we decided to get lunch and wait for the tide to start moving again.

When we returned in the afternoon the fishing still wasn't great but I was able to find a few more legals in the pilings (I think I ended up with four) as well as a couple of smaller fish. We got off the water at around 3:30 as the wind was starting to pick up. Although the fishing wasn't spectacular it was a great day overall; I was able to get my dad into some fish, there were no confrontations with boat owners (which I did NOT want to get into in front of my dad), and the weather warmed up throughout the day. I'm headed back to Portland tomorrow for spring break and maybe some sturgeon but I can't wait to be back soon to do more SD fishing!

Awesome report as always. I'm amazed how consistent you are when it comes to pulling out quality fish. Looks like a lot of fun.

I once watched a 30+ inch hali cleanly bite the pointer finger off this Asian dude... never heard of or saw the guy again after that but from what I understand they were able to reattach the finger. I have my own set of scars from a sub legal that was too small to completely grasp my finger.. left a good bit of scars though.
