Fished oside on the way back home from work in OC. Lots of sardines being caught and saw a nice legal halibut come over the rail. Haven’t fished this pier in more than a year. Caught a bonito, but didn’t have ice and planned on fishing s little longer so I gave it to an Asian lady and she lit up with many thanks. I then tried for some croakers and not sure if I’m doing it right, kept getting small nibbbles but nothing to commit. Definitely lots of action at that pier. Need to stop by more often.

Nice. I've seen a few reports of small bonies in IB and oceanside the last few weeks. Might have to grab the bonito gear and check a few spots in my neck of the woods

Cruised over to Coronado pier after, caught an octo on the soft plastics and a full bellied grump changes the title to include all piers lol 2DE73636-AA35-4B1F-8C81-B896F4444937.jpeg FE387450-F011-4DFE-8F07-E9358636D9C7.png

When are the bonito going to smash us again is a genuine question I never thought that I would be asking. Genuine great cheap thrills.

I brought up an octopus in a hoop net a couple years ago while lobster fishing with my cousin. It slithered all over the boat, then wrapped up one of my arms, then the other one.. good grief.. get this damn thing off of me ! Lol. Rawdeezy, did you have any trouble getting yours off the hook ?

It stuck it self to the railing and then the hook came off, then dropped on The pier and I gave it the ol’ sting ray kick return

There is no size limit.. number is 35 if I am not mistaken. The main octopus species we have here is the California two spot.. I have heard they are delicious. Worth too much to me to use as bait though...

Oceanside pier had some action today too. Plenty of bait, bonito were spotty but would sometimes push into 5-6 feet of water. Caught 1 bonie and 1 halibut on cut smelt, and 1 sandy on plastic. Girlfriend got a sizeable yf croaker on cut sardine

If you are targeting Croaker then fish just in front of where the biggest waves break. They should be spawning now and if you find them they will basically hit any bright color tiny grub (artificial) sandworms (real and gulp brand) use drop-shot or dropper loop approx 1 or 2 ft from weight.

I think between the 3 of us, we should be able to catch a fish. I'm not too knowledgeable when it comes to Bonito, only know of 2 techniques that I've seen work every time. So...that's what I'm gonna go for :)

Spanish octopus are much better tasting than our local octos. Ours can be a little mushy when cooked.
