Anyone ever try tuning the SD River inlet? Coming from the OB dog beach?

I assume you have an engine on your float tube because there's no way you'd be able to kick your way out of the trouble you'd be in.

Grappling hook the fence blocking off the wier as a last ditch effort to stay out of the surf?

I'm so intrigued, I was actually trying to think of a way it could be done.. but I dont think there's enough space on my tube to carry the cinder block and 50' length of climbing rope !

Hell, decent length of rebar and a nice length of chain. Set it up before you get in, let the current take you to it, latch on, and you're in theory good to go.

Its comical to think about.. very "Wizard of Oz" ish. Like swirling around in a big whirlpool. Sinking line wrapped around my fins five or six times.. with a big Halibut on the other end..crowds of people watching me from shore..tons of barking dogs trying to get out in the water to visit me.. that's the kind of stuff that would happen to me.

I'd imagine you'll also do everything possible to avoid that situation... lol

Lol informative stuff. Thanks for the input. Right around the first bridge maybe even east of it shouldn't be too bad, no?

Even it it was "safe" to do, I don't think I'd ever do it myself. Along the inlet at the mouth of the ocean or back in the more slack water toward the bridge doesn't matter. It just seems like a poor idea. Maybe a good idea to reach places people just don't want to go, but I just see too many things that could go wrong east of Dog Beach.

It also looks really shallow out there most of the time. Not sure how much fun I'd have tubing through mud, trash, bicycles, shopping carts, dead bodies(?) whatever else.

Sure there is. Not getting yourself into it in the first place.

This is what I envision when I think about sticking a float tube in the water at the SDR/Dog Beach inlet - but at several times the speed.
