A few weeks ago me and a few friends picked up some live sardines to target halibut off Doheny beach, Dana Point, CA.

We caught a few but have a look at what else was running up and down the beach! And there were lots of them! I only had bass gear. Could I catch any and actually land them and safely set them on my kayak? Have a look!

Always wanted to fish Doheny and outside. What's my best bet on parking and piece of sand for launching?

if you get there before 6:30am you can get a good parking spot at baby beach in the back of the harbor and it’s free parking. The only thing is that it’s about 3/4 of a mile to the mouth of the harbor.

the other option is pay to park at the boat launch. I’m not sure if it costs $15 or $20, it’s close to the mouth of the harbor.

also you can beach launch right on Doheny beach if you’re ok with that and can pay for metered county parking or park on the state beach(?) side. Not sure what it costs.
