Lost what could of been a new pb for me. I’m guessing low 30’s. God I wish I didn’t see that fish, let along get a video of it on the sand and throwing the lc back into my face. Literally threw my pole behind me and ran for the Hali but when I got there, it shot out the second I got there. You can see the lure in the first picture. That’s fishing for you.

Dude!! That sucks. I'm dealing with the same thing right now. I hooked the biggest fish I've ever hooked in the SoCal surf this morning.

I fought it for 5 minutes or so. It'd get close to the shore, I'd see its fins on the surface. and then it'd peel my drag out 30 yards or so. Rinse and repeat. I caught a good glimpse of it. It was a spotfin croaker. Monster. I could have beached him at that point, but I was having too much fun fighting him and letting him run.

Like an IDIOT, I reached for my phone to try and get a video of the fight. While fumbling to hit play, I let the fish have some slack, and bye-bye. He came unbottoned. I keep replaying it over and over in my head this morning. What could have been ...

Needless to say, that's the last time I'll try to get cell phone video footage while fighting a large fish. I need to get a gopro.

At least I got to play around with him for 5 minutes or so. He gave me the fight. Silver linings ...

It seems like hitting that record button will result in a lost fish. Exactly why I don’t carry a go pro anymore. Hahah

Feel you, man. Lost what would have been my PB off a LC at the beach and I wasn’t even trying to take pictures. Just trying to land the darn thing.
Personally, it’s another reason I got away from the LCs. Yeah, they get hit but when a fish starts shaking like halibut do, it provides a lot of weight for them to throw around and thus leverage to dislodge the hooks. Those fish go nuts when they feel the air. Seen it on beaches and boats. Gotta keep ‘em tight. Best of luck with your next and many more!
